On April 13, 1919 (Sunday) the British Commander General Dyer, while displaying imperialistic arrogance, ordered his soldiers to open fire and spray bullets on the people who had assembled in compound Jallianwalla (Amritsar, India) to celebrate Basakhi festival. The ruthless British soldiers fired 1650 rounds and killed 1516 civilians in minutes. Jagmohan (sarcastically nicknames as General Dyer) felt sadistically nostalgic about the Jallianwala massacre episode when he returned to Kashmir ‘grouse moor’ for hunting expedition on January 19, 1990. On January 21, 1990 CRPF Commander, while taking his cue from his haughty boss General Dyer (Governor Jagmohan), ordered his soldiers to fire at the procession of people who were protesting against the large scale arrest of Kashmiri youth at Gawkadal Srinagar. Over 52 people got killed due to indiscriminate firing; and hundreds were wounded. On January 22, 1990 the callous and obstreperous armed personnel of India killed scores of Kashmiri who were mourning the death of their compatriots who had fallen a prey to the CRPF ruthlessness at Gawkadal on January 21. Alamgari Bazar carnage could not corner the resistance movement. People felt exasperated and infuriated. On January 25, 1990 the Indian soldiers, while going berserk, killed 26 civilians who were expressing solidarity with the heroic freedom zealots of Srinagar. However, the brave people of Handwara displayed exemplary resistance.
On January 21,2012 resistance youth leader and Chairman , People’s Political Party ( PPP) Engineer Hilal Ahmad War organized a rally of freedom votaries to pay homage to Gawkadal martyrs of January 21,1990. Mr. Hilal War addressed the gathering of freedom activists and apprised them of the salient features of Kashmir Resistance Movement. It was a charming and fascinating spectacle of discipline , non-violence, unflinching patriotic commitment . In fact, Engineer Hilal War, through his sagacity and edifying sermon, was trying to tame the teenagers for a futuristic and altruistic programme when Superintendent of Police ( East) Zulfikar and his soldiers swooped on the peaceful activists. Lathi-wielding soldiers , while running amok, injured scores of innocent activists. They did not spare even the self-respecting ladies. Head injury of Mrs. Jammel War, sister in law of Engineer Hilal Ahmad War ( the mother of four children ) reminds the horrified and benumbed ladies ( of Maisuma) of the ferocity and ravenousness of the barbarian Indian armed personnel who massacred the peaceful protesters of January 21,1990 at Gawkadal. If peaceful demonstrations are literally proscribed, then youngsters of Kashmir will certainly and inevitably be constrained to have recourse to some revolutionary mode of remonstration. This may be an unwholesome prognosticative dialectics for the pacifists and humanists who are wedded to the cause of peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue. To some hubristic myopes this may appear hyperbola and techno babble. To be true, it is anthroposophy of a pragmatist and rationalist that makes him prophesy like this. Don’t underestimate it.
As a sensitive Asian citizen it is my bounden duty to facilitate an alliance of Asian Giants including Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey to checkmate the onslaught of western powers which are hell bent on pursuing their agenda of expansionism and interventionism. Why should India act as an appendage of occidental imperialism? Why should this democracy act as a proxy for the powers which have converted the who of Asia into a battle field? These powers killed 30 Lakh people in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. And you take pride in hobnobbing with them. This is something that all the humanists feel ashamed of.
How can the mourning and wailing women of Gawkadal forget valiant freedom zealot Ra’oof in their epicedium, elegy and monody on January 21-the day which reminds them of the martyrdom of Ra’oof who , on January 21,1990 , received a volley of over 32 bullets in his chest simply because he mustered up courage to pounce on the CRPF soldier who was indiscriminately killing the innocent people with his machine gun? And how can the self respecting ladies of Maisuma forget that, on January 21, 2012, Mrs. Jameel was ruthlessly beaten by the arrogant soldiers who ran amok on the day when peaceful demonstrators were paying homage to the Gawkadal martyrs of January 21, 1990? Kashmiris will continue to follow in the footsteps of six lakh martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the right of self-determination since 1947.
