On the eve of second anniversary of article 370 and 35 A abrogation impressive Shutdown was witnessed in Kashmir valley with most of shops closed , although private transport plied .
The Kashmir traders unions and Chamber of industries and commerce has said at no of occasions that the economy of Kashmir has collapsed and depression among people is growing since two years of abrogation of the article 370 and partition of State into two Union Territories.
And today , reports emanating from ground zero stated that cops of Kashmir police were forcing shopkeepers to open their shops in Srinagar. Most of the shops in the city were shut on the second anniversary of the abrogation of JK’s special status.
The statement of PAGD also known as Gupkar alliance comprising of NC, PDP, Congress and communists reflected on hopelessness on eve of second anniversary of article 370 abrogation in Jammu and Kashmir as it stated that August 05 marks the completion of two years since the unprecedented assault on the constitution of India was taken to nullify Article 370 of the constitution – thereby damaging the state – center relationship with union of India . By demolishing the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir by the Government it has crossed all the limits of constitutionality
PAGD observed Downgrading historic state of Jammu & Kashmir and dividing it into two separate union territories without the consent of the people and also ignoring the Resolution adopted by J&K legislature on 03 March 2004 to preserve the unity and the secular character of Jammu & Kashmir state has set a precedent that any state can cease to exist as a state and can be carved up into any number of fragments any time , by placing it under Governors Rule. Thereby the very existence of a state becomes a matter of central discretion, a substantial step towards a unitary state.
it added that the abrogation of Article 35 A made the status of permanent residents redundant . Protection of Jobs and land rights was removed arbitrarily which deepened the alienation and sense of insecurity in all the regions . The economy of J&K has virtually collapsed as tourism ,trade agriculture , horticulture and Handicraft sectors were badly hit. Employment opportunities are shrinking . Is Corruption any less and Goverence any better? The fact remains not a single claim stands the test of the scrutiny .
The view is also that a process of throttling of democracy and democratic rights was initiated . The clampdown and continuous restrictions on the movement and association of the people and gagging the media has resulted in forced silence.
PDP the mainstream Party also condemned the abrogation.
On the second anniversary of the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir”s special status, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said people had no choice but to “resist to exist” when “gross injustice” is heaped on them.
“No words or pictures are enough to depict the pain, torment & upheaval inflicted upon J&K on this black day two years ago. When unbridled oppression is unleashed & gross injustice heaped there is no other choice but to resist to exist,” the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said in a tweet.
