Army Chief on Kashmir visit; briefed about situation on LoC

Srinagar, Jun 1 : Chief of the Army, General Bipin Rawat, was today given details about the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Kashmir Valley where security forces achieved major success in counter- insurgency operations during the past one week.
Six infiltrators were killed in a fierce encounter by security forces near LoC in Kupwara district while two militants, including Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, Hizbul Mujahideen commander, were killed on May 27.
Two militants were killed in Sopore of Baramulla today.
Defence sources said the Army Chief arrived at the headquarters of 15 Corps at Badami Bagh Cantonment today to review the security situation and operational preparedness of the troops posted along with LoC and in Kashmir.
They said immediately after his arrival, General Rawat was given a detailed brief about the overall security situation in the hinterland and LoC.
