Jammu, Jan 5 : Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat commenced his maiden three-day visit to the state of Jammu and Kashmir from today.
During his three-day stay, General will be visiting Udhampur, Srinagar, Nagrota and Siachen. “He will also be visiting formations at Kupwara, Anantnag, Akhnoor and Rajouri. There, he will be briefed upon the prevailing security situation. The General will also interact with officers and men,” defence spokesman here said.
He said General Rawat lauded the role of Northern Command in restoring peace and normalcy during the recent unrest.
He also commended the soldiers for strongly reciprocating to the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
General Rawat has said, “Every soldier of our Army plays an important role towards security of the nation because it is the contribution of every soldier that makes the Army efficient and strong.” He emphasised on the need to evolve a dynamic strategy to handle the proxy war and defeat enemy’s nefarious designs.
The visit assumes importance as Northern Command is the first place where General Rawat is visiting after taking over as Army Chief.
Meanwhile as per sources, Gen Rawat this morning arrived in Udhampur and held threadbare discussion on security scenario and then reached White Knight Corps at Nagrota in Jammu.
Sources said he also visited the forward areas of Rajouri and Akhnoor and interacted with the jawans, official sources told UNI.
