Srinagar: An Army captain was injured in an ongoing encounter in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.
Correspondent from North Kashmir quoting officials said that Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and paramilitary CRPF 179 Battalion this evening cordoned off Model Town –B locality in the apple town on specific inputs regarding the presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team started search operation, the militants hiding in the colony, opened heavy gunfire towards the search team. The joint team returned the fire, sparking off fierce encounter. In the initial exchange of fire, an Army captain identified as Abhimanyu was injured. He was instantly removed to Army’s Badami Bagh hospital for treatment.
As the gunfight intensified, further reinforcements were rushed to the area. The exchange of fire was going on when the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, police sources said two militants were believed to be in the area.
