APDP holds monthly sit-in in Srinagar

Srinagar:-The Association of Parents of Disappeared persons (APDP) Thursday said it has initiated a survey under the United Nations Human Rights Project in Kupwara, Srinagar and Bandipora districts of Kashmir and medical and other assistance was being provided to 500 cases of enforced or involuntary disappearance identified and surveyed so far.“Medical assistance, in the form of consultations from the doctors, medicines and diagnosis & medical analysis, is being provided to the deserving families of victims of the enforced or involuntary disappearances. Educational assistance for the children in these families and social assistance in the form of livelihood support, etc is also being provided,” the APDP said in a statement issued here to.Earlier, the APDP held its monthly sit-in here at city centre Lalchowk. City correspondent said that scores of members of APDP appeared at Pratap Park, Srinagar this morning and held a day long sit-in protest, demanding whereabouts of their dear ones.Carrying ply cards and photographs of their dear ones allegedly disappeared by government forces’ during the last 22 years, the protesters were demanding implementation of independent commission in all enforced disappearance cases.“An independent commission must be implemented in spirit and demand India must ratify international convention on enforced disappearances,” APDP chairperson, Parveena Ahangar said.
