Washington, May 16 Day after 10 people were killed in a shooting incident in US’ Buffalo city, one person was killed and four critically injured in a shooting at a church in California.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department said, “Dispatch received call of a shooting inside Geneva Presbyterian Church at 1:26 pm (on Sunday). Four victims have been critically wounded , one with minor injuries. All victims are adults and are enroute to the hospital. One victim is deceased at the scene.
“We have detained one person and have recovered a weapon that may be involved.”
CNN quoted Tom Cramer, a Presbytery leader, as saying that the shooting occurred at the Geneva Presbyterian Church during a lunch reception to honor a former pastor of a Taiwanese congregation that uses the church for its worship services.
At a press conference, Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock said that the suspect was detained at the scene after some people at the church were able to hogtie his legs with an extension cord and took away at least two handguns from him.
He said, “That group of churchgoers displayed what we believe is exceptional heroism in interfering or intervening to stop the suspect.”
The victims injured in the shooting included four Asian men, ages 66, 75, 82 and 92, and one Asian woman age 86, CNN reported.
“The identity of the decedent will be released pending official identification by the Coroner and notification of next of kin,” a statement from the sheriff’s office said.
