Animal Husbandry and Welfare Awareness Month extended until March 13 in Kargil

Kargil, Feb 22: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, has extended the Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare Awareness Month celebration until March 13, 2025, in its inaugural year to maximize outreach and impact.

This initiative was started on January 14, 2025, wherein nationwide activities were organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in association with State Animal Husbandry and Welfare Departments which was earlier slated till February 13, 2025.

To further promote and give a boost to ethical animal husbandry practices, animal health, and welfare in India, the awareness campaign will now continue till March 13, 2025, across the country.

In this context, the Animal Husbandry Department, Kargil, is actively celebrating Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare Month – Pashu Kalyan Pakhwada across the district, covering various villages and blocks, including Zanskar, Sankoo, Drass, Kargil, TSG, Shargole, and Shakar Chiktan.

As part of the month-long celebration, a series of awareness camps, veterinary health camps, vaccination drives, deworming programs, and farmer awareness sessions are being conducted.

The initiative aims to promote better livestock management, disease prevention, breed improvement, and overall animal welfare. Livestock farmers are being sensitized about scientific animal husbandry practices, government schemes, like KCC, dairy and poultry farming and modern techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability in the sector.

On the occasion, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, Dr. Gulzar Hussain in his message emphasized the importance of livestock in the rural economy and reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting farmers with essential veterinary services, training, and welfare programs.

He urged farmers to take full advantage of the initiatives being implemented under Pashu Kalyan Pakhwada for the betterment of their livestock and livelihood.

The celebration has received an overwhelming response from farmers and livestock breeders, reflecting their enthusiasm for adopting improved animal husbandry practices. The department remains dedicated to working closely with the farming community to ensure sustainable livestock development in the region.
