JAMMU: Minister for Forests Mian Altaf Ahmed accompanied by Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla today visited Social Forestry closure at Kunjwani to sort out the issue of compensation for 579 trees coming under the widening work along the road.
Regional Director, Social Forestry Division, Mr. A K Gupta, Superintending Engineer, R&B Mr. P L Bhushan, besides other senior officers of Social Forestry and Roads and Buildings were present on the occasion.
Mian Altaf asked the Regional Director, Social Forestry to start the work for removing the trees to facilitate the pace of progress on the road being developed to 6-lane from Kunjwani to Satwari road .
The Ministers were apprised that a proposal for sanctioning Rs. 36.64 lakh has already been submitted to the Planning Department for to meet the expenditure on account of compensation for the trees and re-plantation to compensate the damage.
The Ministers also visited Mahamaya temple in Bahu range to take on the spot assessment for the construction of Harki Poodi-Mahamaya temple approach road. It was decided that the work would be taken up only after ascertaining the title of the land required for the purpose.
Earlier, the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla visited the Government Middle School Marakhari in Channi Himmat and distributed stationery items, annual, fee, scholarship and winter uniform among the poor students.
On the occasion, the students of the school presented a colourful cultural programme which was highly appreciated by the teaching, non-teaching, parents and locals.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhalla said that the Government endeavours to provide quality and vocational education to the students at their doorsteps, adding that in this regard several innovative measures have been taken to open and upgrade educational institutions with thrust to equip these with latest infrastructural facilities.
The Minister said education plays a pivotal role in the transformation of socio-economic condition of the society, adding that free education, text books and uniform, besides scholarships are being provided to poor students so that they could continue their studies and live a dignified life.
Mr. Bhalla called upon the student community to work hard and excel in their examinations. He also asked to the teacher community to mould students with latest techniques of education so that they could compete in national level competitions.
