Agri deptt Kashmir signed MoU for purchase of seeds of potato

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 20: Agriculture Department Kashmir today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Seeds Corporation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India for production and purchase of 3000 quintals foundation/certified seeds of Potato variety Kufri Jyoti.

This variety of Potato seed which the Corporation will produce at various places in the country to make available to the Agriculture Department Kashmir for further multiplication in the Departmental Potato Seed Multiplication Farms during the Kharief 2015.
The memorandum was signed by Director Agriculture Kashmir Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad Shah on behalf of Agriculture Department Kashmir and Regional Manager, National Seeds Corporation (NSC) Chandigarh, Dr. Pankaj Teeyagi.
As per the MoU the Corporation will supply the seed on the prevailing market rates to Agriculture Department Kashmir by March 2015, so that the seed is sown in the Higher Altitude Departmental Farms on time. It may be mentioned that Agriculture Department has six high altitude farms at Kalnag (Anantnag), Bosyan, Yarikhah (Tangmarg), Gulmarg, Sedaw (Shopian) and Ismarg (Gurez) during current year. The Department achieved a record production of 5000 quintals of Potato Seed from the departmental farms, which is being supplied to the farmers for Kharief 2015.
NSC is the largest seed producer in public sector in India, working under the control of Ministry of Agriculture in India having 10 Regional Offices and 77 Area Offices, with 6 farms having more than 50,000 acres of land in different climatic zones in the country. At present NSC is feeding more than 60 crops.
