In a statement issued to the Kashmir Media Watch, Referring to the disturbing incidents that have emerged in the aftermath of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, Advocate Sharma in his complaint registered with the NHRC vide diary no.8331/IN/2025, expressed serious concern over what he described as a “coordinated, systematic and brutal campaign” of violence directed at Hindus in the region. His complaint details incidents of arson, looting, destruction of homes, and the brutal murder of a Hindu father and son, noting the complete silence and inaction of the State Government of West Bengal as deeply alarming.

Citing that there has been no preventive action, no protection to victims, and no prosecution of culprits, the complaint states that the West Bengal administration has remained a mute spectator, emboldening the attackers and leaving the victims to suffer in fear and helplessness.

“Are the lives of Hindus so cheap in West Bengal? Is there no accountability when homes are reduced to ashes and families shattered simply for belonging to a particular faith?” the complaint questions.

In his plea to the NHRC, Advocate Deepak Sharma has urged the Commission to:

Immediately depute a high-level fact-finding team to assess the situation on ground in Murshidabad,

Seek a detailed explanation from the State Government,

Take action under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 against responsible officials,

Ensure urgent relief and protection for affected families, and Initiate prosecution of those behind the violence.

Calling upon the NHRC to uphold its constitutional responsibility, Advocate Sharma stated, “Let it be known that the pain of the persecuted is not invisible. The Hindu community in Murshidabad is living in fear—with no protection from the State that owes them a constitutional duty.”

The complaint reflects growing public concern over selective violence and alleged state complicity. It concludes with an appeal to the Commission not to let this cry go unheard, reinforcing faith in the rule of law and the protection of all communities.
