New Delhi: The Army has confirmed that at least 700 militants are waiting to infiltrate into Kashmir and there have been some incidents of firing at the Line of Control (LoC) to facilitate their crossing.”The militant camps are very much existing in Pakistan. We are fully aware of several hundreds of terrorists who are waiting to be infiltration to India and we presume they have the Pakistan backing,” said Chief of the Western Command of Indian Army, Lieutenant General SR Ghosh.Just a few days back Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Army were at loggerheads over infiltration by militants from Pakistan into the state. While Omar claimed that nearly 40 terrorists recently infiltrated the state, Army commanders dismissed the report as baseless.Omar said that there was credible information suggesting successful infiltration across the Line of Control by militants.”There is credible information to suggest that there have been successful attempts of infiltration last. The figure has yet to verify by the multi-agency centre in Delhi. So as of now it is provisional but there is an indication that anything between 30-40 terrorists have crossed over and this information was independently provided both by the state intelligence agencies as well as central intelligence agencies,” Omar had claimed on May 25 in Jammu. However, General Officer Commanding, Northern Command, Lieutenant General KT Parnaik claimed that though a large number of attempts were made by the terrorists to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, none of them were successful. The Commander of 15 Corps, Lieutenant General AM Hassnian, said that the Army was maintaining strict vigil along the LoC even as many militants were waiting inside Pakistan to cross over into India.
