7 injured in Anantnag grenade blast

Srinagar, (KMW News): Suspected militants hurled grenade in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district towards an Army Vehicle on Tuesday afternoon and wounded seven civilian including a police man.

Eyewitness told that around 12.30 suspected militants hurled a grenade at a passing army vehicle bearing registration No 02d147972M in the Lal Chowk near super bazaar Anantanag on Tuesday.
Police said the incident occurred at around 12.30 pm when an Army vehicle was passing through the area. Police said grenade was hurled towards the Army vehicle however it missed the target and exploded on the road.
Eyewitnesses said that the grenade explosion created panic in the area and people were seen running for cover. Heavey contingents of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reached the spot and cordoned the area and carried out search operation.
The injured persons have been identified as head constable Mohamed Abdullah Bhatt S/o Abdul Razak Bhat of Keran, Dr Mohamed Ibrahim S/o Abdul Rehman of Sarnal Anantnag, Mubark Ahmad Sheik S/o Gulzar Ahmad Shiek of Dundilura Kukernag, Imtiyaz Ahmad S/O Abdul Gani R/O Manghal, Firdous ahmad Deka S/O Mohmed Ramzan Dekha R/O Divso deksum Kokernag, Mohmed Ashraf Wani S/O Gh Rasool wani R/O Daksan and Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik S/O Gh Rosool Malik R/O Keven Lasipora.
This was the second attack of the kind in 48 hours in the Anantang district. Earlieron Sunday evening grenade was hurdled on Sherbagh Police Station which exploded in the compound of Police station but no one was injured in this explosion.
Meanwhile PRO defence Naresh Vij said: “At around 12.30 one army vehicle of 1-sector RR was on the way when unidentified militants hurled grenade on the roof top of the vehicle which fell and exploded on the ground. Several civilian were injured including a police man. However the explosion damaged the vehicle partly”.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, A G Mir confirmed the blast and said 6 people were injured. He said police is investigating the matter.
