Srinagar: In a strong message to the right-wing Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), police arrested six of the activists of the youth wing from BarbarShah locality of this capital city, official sources told Saturday.
They said a group of BJYM activists last night appeared at BarbarShah locality and started raising party flags and bunting. The activists also pasted posters on the wall and electric poles seeking public support in making the Lal Chowk programme a success.
In the meantime, a police party reached the spot and detained six of the party activists. They have been identified as Mushtaq Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Soura, Showkat Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mohmmad Mir of Nowgam, Verinag, Waseem Hussain, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Qamarwari, Imtiyaz Sheikh, son of Noor Mohammad Sheikh of Kalamdanpora, Manzoor Ahmad, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Lal Bazar and Hilal Mir, son of Abdul Majid Mir of Basant Bagh.
Meanwhile, police said that the activists were arrested for violating prohibitory orders in place.
“Six persons, belonging to a Political party were arrested from Lal Chowk for violating prohibitory orders, which were already put in place by the authorities. Some posters have also been confiscated from their possession,” a police spokesman, in a statement issued this evening said.
Pertinently, the arrest of BJYM activists comes days ahead of the proposed flag hoisting plan at the historic Ganta Ghar in this capital city.
