Leh, July 15: The 5th meeting of Union Territory Level Security Committee (UTLSC) for the UT of Ladakh was held today at Hotel ‘The Grand Dragon Ladakh’, Leh under the Chairmanship of Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT of Ladakh and under the aegis of Shri Chandrashekhar Azad, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, UT of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. S D Singh Jamwal, DGP, Ladakh Police, Shri Prabhat Ranjan, IPS (Retd), Security Adviser, RBI, Shri Vinod Kumar, DGM, RBI along with the senior officials of Government departments, banks and Reserve Bank of India, Jammu.

Chief Secretary, UT of Ladakh impressed upon the safety of treasure, security of bank branches, ATMs and ensured full support from the government / police authorities in the matter. He expressed that detection of FICN specially in Rs.500/- denomination notes is more concerning as new series in this denomination has been introduced just a few years back.

He added that Security gadgets should function properly as it helps in resolving crimes and theft incidents. He further advised banks to conduct a periodical review of security gadgets available in currency chests and bank branches. 

Regional Director, RBI expressed RBI’s obligation to timely issue fresh Indian currency notes to the members of public in adequate quantity to the remotest parts of Ladakh and withdrawal of soiled notes from the system. He further impressed upon the detection and reporting of FICN with Law enforcement agencies.
