Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government today said over 5,000 stone pelters were arrested during the last one year in the Kashmir Valley of which over 4,900 have been released.
Replying to the question of BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria in the Assembly, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar said on behalf of the Chief Minister that 5,228 stone pelters were arrested during the last one year in the Valley and 27 in Jammu and Ramban districts.
The arrests were made between Janaury 1, 2010 till the end of the year and by February 28 this year, 4,982 stone pelters were released in the Kashmir Valley and 21 and 6 in Jammu and Ramban districts respectively, Sagar said.
There are only 264 stone pelters still in the police custody, he said.
