Jammu: Five people were killed and 33 injured when a passenger bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in hilly Ramban district today.
“A bus carrying passengers was on way to Srinagar from Jammu when it skidded off the road near Nashri at Chanderkotethis morning at around 0500 hrs,” Anil Mangotra, Superintendent of Police Ramban said.
He said the bus plunged into 400 to 500 feet deep gorge.
“Five people died on the spot and 33 got injured,” the SP said adding that police, army and locals immediately rushed to the spot on receiving the information and started rescue operations.
“Out of 33 injured, nine of them were critical and airlifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital and six were shifted to the SKIIMS Srinagar while others were admitted at Ramban hospital,” he added.(KMW NEWS)
