4th Ladakh UT Taekwondo Championships 2025 Conclude Successfully at SAI STC Kargil

Kargil, October 28: The 4th Ladakh UT Taekwondo Championships 2025, organized by the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, concluded successfully at the Sports Authority of India – STC, Kargil.

More than 100 athletes from both districts of the Union Territory of Ladakh participated in various categories, showcasing exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship. The event was supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and conducted under the observation of Mohd. Ali, Special Observer from SAI, with technical supervision by Event Director Zaheer Abass Khan.

The concluding ceremony was graced by Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon as the Chief Guest, while Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi attended as the Guest of Honour, and ASP Kargil, Nitin Yadav was the Special Guest.

Other dignitaries present included President, Ladakh Taekwondo Association, Gulzar Hussain Munshi; General Secretary, Anayat Ali Shotopa; President, District Olympic Association Kargil, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah; Vice President, Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association, along with distinguished guests, coaches, officials, players, and parents.

In his address, CEC Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon expressed immense happiness at witnessing the growing enthusiasm for sports among Ladakh’s youth. He congratulated the athletes for their achievements at both national and international platforms and announced that a Winter Sports Academy for Drass and Zanskar has been sanctioned to further strengthen the region’s sports ecosystem.

The CEC praised Secretary Banhu Praba and Joint Director Tahir Zubdavi for their dedicated efforts in developing sports infrastructure across Ladakh. He also revealed that 500 kanals of land have been identified for the establishment of a modern Sports Academy in Kargil, equipped with advanced training facilities. Highlighting the interconnection between sports and tourism, he emphasized that the Hill Council’s vision is to integrate both sectors for holistic development.

On the occasion, CEC Dr. Akhoon handed over 100 Taekwondo mats and sensor socks to the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, presented to President Gulzar Hussain Munshi—a support package worth ₹5 lakh, marking the first-ever government assistance of its kind in the Association’s 25-year history.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director YSS Ladakh Tahir Hussain Zubdavi appreciated the achievements of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, noting that it stands as one of the most successful sports bodies in the UT, boasting five State Awardees, over 50 Black Belts, and numerous National and International players.

President Gulzar Hussain Munshi extended heartfelt gratitude to SAI for its support and to the CEC LAHDC Kargil for empowering the Association with crucial infrastructure and equipment.

The event concluded with the presentation of medals and mementos among players and officials by the dignitaries, marking a proud moment for the growing sports community of Ladakh.
