SRINAGAR: 44 lac plants have been planted, 285 hectors of land treated under CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestration Management and Planning Authority)) during the current year.
This information was given out in a review meeting of CAMPA held under the Chairmanship of the Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf Ahmad here today. Commissioner Secretary Forests, Mr. Shantmanu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. R. D. Tiwari, Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad, Conservator DFO’s of Kashmir Division were also present in the meeting.
It was also given out that 9.10 Rfts of forest land have been fenced, besides about 19 lac plants have been planted in the fields. 21846 cubic meters of soil conservation works have been under taken besides 8.9 lac patches of pasture development has been done. Similarly an amount of Rs.17.43 crore has been spent under the scheme during the current fiscal.
Mr. Mian Altaf while addressing the officers said that the role of scheme is to upgrade and development the infrastructural capacities besides catering to the problem of deforestation so that the ecological balance is maintained in a proper manner. He said that the need of the hour is to see to it that the forest cover of the state is maintained in such a manner that affordable timber can also be provided to the needy.
Later on the Minister also took a review meeting of providing of timber to the consumers. He directed the officers to ensure that the timber is provided to the people at an earliest especially in view of the coming winter season, so that they don’t face any inconvenience.
The Minister also directed the officers of State Forest Corporation to provide timber to the Forest Department for its distribution to the consumers especially those who fall under Zone-C.
