3 militants killed in Handwara encounter

Handwara, Aug 23 : Three militants have been killed and an Army man was wounded in an encounter between the militants and joint operation of police and army in North Kashmir’s Handwara district.
Police and defence spokesman said that based on specific intelligence reports about presence of militants in Village Krumhura near Rainwari Forest of Handwara, operation was launched by police along with 21-RR, 9 Para, 92-Bn CRPF, resulting in killing of three militants and recovery of three AK-47 rifles, besides a large haul of other warlike stores.
SP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani told News agency that the identity of slain militants was yet to be ascertained. “One Army soldier was also injured in the encounter. He has been shifted to Army’s Badamibagh Cantonment Hospital, where he is stable.”
The spokesmen added that the militants hiding in the area opened heavy volume of fire at approximately 2030 hrs last night. “In the ensuing fire fight and precise engagement by the Army personnel, three militants were killed. One Army officer who was injured during the operation was immediately evacuated for treatment and his condition is stable,” said the statement.
“The bodies of three militants were recovered from the site and handed over to the Police. 3 AK-47 rifles, 14 Magazines and large quantity of AK-47 ammunition, 6 UBGLs Grenades, 4 Chinese Grenades, 2 Maps, 3 Radio Sets, 2 Rucksacks and other war like stores have been recovered from the killed militants whose identity is yet to be established. The search operation was still on till last reports came in,” he said.
