21 roads costing Rs 160 cr to be constructed in Billawar under PMGSY: Dr Singh

KATHUA, NOVEMBER 14(KMW):- Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Dr Nirmal Singh today launched construction work of a road from Thara Kalyal to Bhabhnun block Billawar.
The 2.65 km road will be constructed under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.53 crore and will be completed in a span of nine months.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM said that about 21 road projects will be taken up in the block under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 160 crore to upgrade the road network in the area. He also informed that Rs 4 crore have been earmarked for construction of Indoor Stadium at Billawar.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister convened a public meeting at Thara Kalyal in Billawar where the villagers apprised him of their demands mainly related to construction of Mini Stadium, completion of community hall, shed at Ghari Fort along with boundary wall.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nirmal Singh said that Billawar has glorious history of religious and economic activities. He maintained that the topographical beauty of Billawar makes it unique place to visit as it is endowed with natural landscapes and religious shrines, adding that the place can be further revamped as heritage town to allure tourists to this area.
The initiative for restoration of the pristine glory of Billawar town would increase the tourist inflow in coming times, and would also give an impetus to the economic activities in the area, he added.
Reiterating commitment of the Government to provide essential amenities to the people and ensure equitable development of all the three regions of the State, Deputy Chief Minister said that developmental projects are underway to ensure requisite facilities to the people.
The Dy CM directed SDM Billawar to immediately prepare an estimate for boundary wall of Ghari Fort. He said that the funds can be made available from his CDF for the timely completion of the boundary wall work.
Dr Nirmal Singh also attended an impressive function at Gurudwara Singh Sabha at Sawan Chak, Kathua held to mark the 547th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that teachings of Guru Nanak Devji would continue to inspire generations, leading them to the path of righteousness and brotherhood. He said that Guruji was an apostle of peace and tolerance who strove throughout his life for promoting social justice and equality and to bring about peace and harmony among the communities.
Dr Singh hoped that the celebration of the religious event would contribute towards strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony besides being a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the state.
