20 persons detained under PSA in Sgr: SSP

Srinagar: Asserting that no minor or student has been arrested by the police during the summer unrest, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) city, Syed Ashiq Hussian Bukhari Tuesday said 20 persons from Srinagar were booked under Public Safety Act.
“Exams of the students who have been arrested by the police on the charges of stone pelting was conducted in the police custody”, Bukhari said while addressing a press conference.
He said 500 youths were arrested and 480 arrested were released immediately. “Remaining 20 persons have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA),” he added.
Earlier, the city police chief claimed that police unearthed a racket involving selling of fake spices.
“Acting on a tip-off, police arrested two persons from old city who were involved in selling fake spices,” he said, identifying the duo as Mohamad Latif Makaya son of Ghulam Ahmad of Qazi Masjid Karfalli Mohalla and Shabir Ahmad Makaya son of Abdul Wahab of Bemina.
He said that the police recovered huge quantity of fake spices from them. “The accused were running a fake spices mill by the name of Mehboob Spices at Shorgalli Mohalla Nawabazar and were selling fake spices to common people on high rates. The modus operandi of the accused was to mix powdered rice and saw dust with synthetic colours and chemicals and sell the same as turmeric powder and Chilli Powder.”
He said that police has registered a case, FIR No. 116 of 2010, under section 272,273 RPC, 3/7 E against the arrested persons.
