2 soldiers, 1 militant killed in Pulwama encounter

Srinagar, Feb 12 (KMW): Two army soldiers including a commando were killed while another has suffered injuries during the encounter with militants in Ratnipora village of south Kahsmir’s Pulwama on Tuesday.

A joint team of Army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles, 182 battalion of CRPF and SOG Pulwama launched cordon and search operation in the early hours. The forces had received specific intelligence input about the militants.

The official said that as the cordon was tightened around the suspected house, the hiding militants fired at the forces leaving three personnel injured. The injured were shifted to army’s 92 base hospital at Badamibagh in Srinagar. “Two of them including the commando succumbed due to critical injuries,” he said.

The slain have been identuified as Sepoy Baljeet Singh and Naik Saneed of 10 Para while the injured has been identified as Hawaldar Chander Pal.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir police said that the slain Pulwama militant was involved in a series of attack on government forces besides, an attack inside the premises of Srinagar’s SMHS hospital helping Pakistani militant Naveed Jatt escape. The attack also left two Jammu and Kashmir police cops dead.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that the slain has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Rather, son of Gh Mohammad Rather, a resident of Behgambagh Kakapora district Pulwama.

“As per police records, he was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. He had a long history of crime records and was wanted by law for his complicity in a series of crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.”

“Incriminating material such as arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for the purpose of investigation.”

He said that body of the killed militant was handed over to his family after completion of medico-legal formalities.
