2 LeT Militants killed in North Kashmir

Srinagar, May 27: Two Lashker-e-Toiba militants were killed in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district while thousands of people offered funeral prayers of two Jash-e-Mohammad cadres in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.Official sources told that acting on specific information about the presence of armed militants in Nowpora area of the apple town, Police and 22 Rashtriya Rifles laid a siege of the area this morning. “An encounter ensued in which two militants were killed,” a police official said. The slain militants have been identified as Omais and Qari Anas, both foreign LeT cadres, the official added.Taking to reporters, SP Sopore, Altaf Khan termed the killing of two militants as a major success. “Qari Anas was involved in the killing of two sisters in the Sopore and the duos were close associates of Abdullah Uni (most wanted LeT commander in north Kashmir).” Soon after the gunfight, hundreds of locals, shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, participated in the funeral prayers of the slain duo.In the neighboring Rafiabad town, police and army launched joint cordon-and-search operation in Gargli and Dagerpora village following information that militants who alleged escaped in Handwara were present in the area. Meanwhile thousands of people including men and women participated in the funeral prayers Of two JeM militants including a commander in Kellar village of Shopian district.  Shouting anti-India slogans, the demonstrated marched through the various lanes before burying the slain duo in a local graveyard.  Jash-e-Mohammad divisional commander Qari Zubair and his associate Mohammad Imran Khan were killed in an encounter with police and 44 RR in the village on Thursday last. Addressing reporters today, SP Shopian Mumtaz Ahmad claimed the killing of the duo as ‘major success.” He also claimed recovery of two Ak-47 rifles, three grenades and ammunition from the possession of the slain militants.
