Srinagar: One more militant was killed in the 18-hour fierce gunbattle in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district that ended on Thursday morning.
Correspondent from North Kashmir said that one more militant identified as Tauseef Ahmad alias Ali Haider of Seer, Sopore was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police in Rather Mohalla of Dooru, Sopore that ended after this morning. The encounter that continued throughout the night also resulted in damage to at least ten residential houses.
One militant believed to be a foreigner was killed yesterday afternoon when the joint team of Army and police laid a siege around Rather Mohalla and started combing operation. The militants reportedly hiding in the house of Mohammad Ramzan, son of Asadullah Zargar opened heavy fire on the search team. In the ensuing gunbattle an unknown foreign militant was killed. The two-storey residential house of Ramzan was completely damaged in the encounter. Nine residential houses also suffered damaged in the night encounter between forces and the lone militant. Some of the affected have been identified as Ghulam Rasool Pala, Ghulam Hassan Pala, Abdul Sattar Pala, Manzoor Ahmad, Ejaz Ahmad Dar and Habibullah Dar.
“Two militants, one among them a foreigner was killed in encounter that started yesterday afternoon in Dooru Sopore. Two AK-rifles and some arms and ammunitions were also recovered from the encounter side,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore, Altaf Khan told.
‘The duo was associated with Hakrat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) militant outfit,” he added.
