1990:State Assembly Dissolved

Srinagar,February 19: A proclamation was issued on February 19, 1990, exactly a month after the appointment of Jagmohan as the Governor of the state, to dissolve the Legislative Assembly. The then Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, had resigned in protest over the appointment of Jagmohan who had ousted him in 1984 and installed his brother-in-law, G M Shah, in office..

With the Assembly dissolved, hopes of political activity being revived were lost. The state was in turmoil, with militants calling the shots.
