11 Kashmiri students get bail in Jammu

Srinagar, August 20, 2010: Eleven of the fourteen students, who were arrested by police on August 11 for staging peaceful protests in Jammu, were released on bail Friday.
Advocate Ghulam Nabi Kaboo, who led a two-member team of lawyers from Kashmir to plead the case, told Press Bureau of India that eleven students were granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, Mohan Singh Parihar, against a bound of Rs 25000.
“The students have also been directed to present themselves whenever asked by the IO (In-charge Officer) besides not be part of any such activities in future,” said Kaboo, president of Bar Association Handwara.
The youth were detained under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act under Sections 120-B and 124 A RPC.
The released have been identified as Mudasir Hussein of Bijbhera, Sayed Saqib Aslam of Chadoora Budgam, Junaid Rashid of Soura, Adnan Qadri of Bemina, Junaid Nabi Wani of HMT, Mohammad Rayees Khan of Sanatnagar, Mudasir Habib of Budgam, Mudasir Ahmad Ganie of Awantipora, Abdi Hussain of Natipora, Shahid Bashir, all medicos of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Amin, a law student.
Pertinently, the students were arrested on August 11 from the hostel of ASCOMS for staging peaceful protests at the Jammu University against the killing of youth in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, the court extended police remand of the three other youths by five days.
The youth include Mohammad Aslam son of Abdul Majeed of Rajouri, Javed Ahmad son of Mohammad Yousuf and Babar Ahmad. (PBI)
