Srinagar: The Kashmir High Court Bar Association today elected senior lawyer Zafar Qureshi as its president in the elections held today at the Sadder Court Complex in Srinagar. Replacing Mian Qayoom, Qureshi defeated Nazir Ahmad Ronga after securing 338 votes. Ronga secured 237 votes.
Ajaz Ahmad Bedar after securing 337 votes was elected as the vice president of the Bar after defeating Bashir Ahmad Dar who secured 234 votes in all.
The Bar elected Mohammd Ashraf Bhat as its General Secreatary after defeating G.N Shaheen who had been holding the post for last three terms.
Shaheen bagged 180 votes as against 338 by Bhat.
Shabir Ahmad Bhat was elected as the Joint Secreatary of the Bar Association after beating Javed Samad by small margin of 14 votes.
Hilal Ahmad Wani was elected as the Treasurer of the new body after defeating Muzaffar Ahmad Rather who bagged 240 votes. Wani bagged 317 votes in the elections.
Pertinently the incumbent President Mian Qayoom had opted out of the elections citing personal reasons. (KMW News)
