Lucknow, Aug 21 A youth hurled a shoe on the national general secretary of Samajwadi Party (SP) and MLA Swami Prasad Maurya during an event organised by the party in the Uttar Pradesh’s state capital Lucknow on Monday, police sources said.
Police sources said that a backward class convention was organised by SP at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar area.
“While Swami Prasad Maurya was going to attend the programme a youth, who came in the guise of a lawyer, hurled shoe on the SP leader,” they said.
Police sources said the SP workers caught the youth, identified as Akash Saini, from the spot and thrashed him brutally.
“The youth was rescued by the police, which reached the spot after getting information, and was taken to Vibhuti Khand police station,” they said.
After the incident SP president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that people of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were involved in such incidents.
“The worker, who was there in Mau, was a BJP worker. Here too he must be a BJP worker. BJP is panicked and worried as it has to give an account of 10 years at the center and 7 years in Uttar Pradesh.”
