Islamabad: The key person of the memo gate scandal, Mansoor Ijaz has recently given the statement in which he said that he was not against Pakistan getting hold of the nuclear technology in order to strengthen the country’s defence. Not only that, he also added that
He was in favour of Pakistan having the nuclear technology for peaceful purposes as well.
Mansoor Ijaz alleged last year that he received a memo from the former Pakistani ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani and was asked to deliver it to the US. The memo was unsigned but had the appearance of originating from someone in the higher
Office of the government of Pakistan. The America based Pakistani businessman claimed that the memo wanted the help of the US in order to reign in the military of the country as the government of Pakistan ruled by the Pakistan People’s Party was afraid that
The military might be planning a coup to over throw the government after the death of Osama bin Laden.
As the proceedings of the memo gate scandal moved forward, allegations have been made against Ijaz himself for being involved in destabilising many different governments. These allegations were made against Ijaz by Zahid Bokhari who is the counsel of the
Former Pakistani ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani.
In response to the allegations made against him, Ijaz explained that he had written an article on nuclear proliferation immediately after Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan publically admitted that he had been directly selling nuclear technology as well as secrets to
Other countries. Other than that, Ijaz was also accused of being involved with Yasin Malik and C D Sahay, a former head of Indian intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The allegations against Ijaz held him responsible for arranging a meeting Between both Mailk as well as Sahay.
To the allegation of arranging a meeting between Sahay as well as Malik, Ijaz admitted that he had done so. Having said that, Ijaz also explained that the meeting was arranged between the two parties at the time that Sahay was not the head of RAW.
