New Delhi, August 2 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “intimidating” political leaders and “manipulating” other parties to serve their interests.
Chadha alleged that the Delhi Ordinance Bill aimed to centralise powers and undermine the autonomy of state governments, posing a serious threat to the federal structure of the country.
He said that the YSRCP and BJD might have their own compulsions for supporting such a bill, but he believed it was against what is right and in violation of democratic principles, AAP said in a statement.
Chadha asserted that BJP’s frustration over its inability to win elections in Delhi for 25 years was evident in their attempts to curtail the powers of the state government through various ordinances, bills, and notifications. However, he maintained that the real power of the Delhi government lay in the love and blessings it received from the people of Delhi, it said.
Chadha criticised the bill, terming it as ‘anti-national’. Despite facing a numerical disadvantage in the Lok Sabha, he expressed the determination of the AAP and the united INDIA bloc to fight against the bill in the Rajya Sabha.
Shifting focus to Manipur, he expressed deep concern over the ongoing unrest in the state for more than 90 days. He took a dig at the Central government’s lack of action in Manipur during this difficult time.
He informed that a 21-member delegation from the INDIA bloc had visited Manipur to understand the situation firsthand, and they met the President regarding this issue, the statement said.
He also expressed worry about recent scenes of communal violence in Haryana.
