Ankara, Oct 7 Turkey’s Armed Forces have destroyed 15 targets of the Workers’ Party of Kurdistan (PKK), banned in the country, the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Turkish security services are conducting the Heroes anti-terrorist operation throughout the country after an attempted terrorist attack on Sunday morning near the Interior Ministry building in the center of Ankara, during which one terrorist blew himself up and the other was neutralized. During the shootout, two police officers were slightly wounded. As reported by A Haber TV channel, the PKK, banned in Turkey, claimed responsibility for the attempted terrorist attack. After these events, the Turkish Defense Ministry reported air strikes on PKK militant targets in northern Iraq and Syria.
“On October 6, 2023, at 10 p.m., air strikes were conducted on terrorist targets in northern Syria, destroying 15 facilities consisting of so-called headquarters, shelters and warehouses in which terrorists were believed to be located,” the Turkish ministry said.
The armed conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party began in Turkey in 1984 and resumed in 2015. In northern Iraq there are PKK bases, against which the Turkish Armed Forces conduct air and ground operations. The presence of Turkish troops in the Zlikan camp northeast of Mosul has long been a source of contention between Baghdad and Ankara, which justifies the presence as a need to fight PKK.
