Lucknow, Sep 8 The death toll has risen to eight after three more bodies were found in the debris of a three-storey building in Sarojini Nagar area of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Sunday.
Police sources said that 30 people injured in the accident are being treated in various hospitals.
An investigation committee is likely to be formed on Sunday on the instructions of the Chief Minister to investigate the accident, after which the reason for the collapse of the three-storey building will be revealed and action will be taken against those responsible.
According to Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob, the administration’s priority is to rescue the people trapped in the debris. An investigation committee of experts will be formed after the relief and rescue work is completed.
Joint Commissioner of (Law and Order) Amit Verma told reporters on Sunday that so far eight people have died in the accident in Transport Nagar, while 30 have been injured, who are being treated in different hospitals. Most of them are out of danger.
The search for people trapped in the debris is currently underway, but now the possibility of anyone being trapped in the debris is negligible, he said.
He said that a committee of experts will be formed to investigate the causes of the accident and only it will be able to give accurate information about the cause of the accident after investigation.
Verma said that the injured are being treated under the supervision of specialist doctors and police and district administration officials are present in the hospitals and are providing minute-to-minute information to the government.
Police sources said that the deceased include Raj Kishore (27), Rudh Yadav (24), Jagroop Singh (35), Jasmeet Singh Sahni (41), Dheeraj (48), Pankaj Tiwari (40), Arun Sonkar (28) and Rajesh Kumar.
Apart from NDRF, SDRF, police and PAC personnel are engaged in relief and rescue work. Relief and rescue work continued throughout the night. Sensors and drones were also used to get information about people trapped in the debris.
It may be noted that a three-storey building collapsed in Transport Nagar at around 6 pm on Saturday evening. Apart from a motor company, there was a warehouse of a pharmaceutical company in the building.
At the time of the accident, many people were working in the building. Expressing deep grief over the accident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
