Srinagar, Oct 6: Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces after they attacked an army camp in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the army said on Wednesday.
The militants opened fire on an army camp at Langate in Kupwara district at around 5am, which was retaliated by the soldiers, an army official said.
After repulsing the attack, the security forces launched a search operation in the area, during which the militants fired upon them, leading to an encounter.
“Three militants have been killed in the ensuing encounter and three AK 47 rifles have been recovered from the spot,” the official said.
Meanwhile, four soldiers of Indian army were wounded in heavy cross-border mortar shelling in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir late last evening, police said.
“Several mortar shells landed near forward Indian army posts in Balnoi Sona Gali in which four soldiers of Mahar regiment were injured,” said a police source.
Two injured soldiers were airlifted to Army Hospital Udhampur today morning while other two were sent to army hospital Rajouri.
India and Pakistan have been exchanging heavy gunfire and mortar fire along the LoC in several sectors from past many days. (CNS)
