Srinagar: A policeman injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district last week, succumbed to his injuries at SK institute of medical sciences, Srinagar on Wednesday.
Official sources told that selection grade constable Murifath Hussian Shiekh, 35, (No1786/S) who was under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SKIMS for the serious injuries he had suffered in an IED explosion outside the police station, Sopore on Wednesday last week, succumbed to his injuries this afternoon.
“The policeman succumbed to his injuries this afternoon after battling for his life for eight days,†a police spokesman said.
He said that the slain constable is survived by widow and two minor kids. The deceased had joined the Police services in the year 2000.
Meanwhile, army has launched a major operation in Pachnard area in Machil sector near Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district after a brief encounter during wee hours today.
Official sources said that 6 SIKHLI regiment observed some suspicious movement on this of the LoC during wee hours. On challenging the movement, they said, militants opened fire which army retaliated, ensuing into a gunfight. Soon after the brief exchange of fire, army launched a major operation to track the suspected militants, they said. The searches were continuing when reports last came in, they added.
