Kargil, January 1: A day-long workshop titled “Sacred Peaks, Sustainable Paths: Faith and Innovation for Ladakh’s Future” was organized today by Rubaroo in collaboration with Ladakh Times, Handloom Department Kargil, and Team Stringmo. 

Young artists, artisans, and students as youth leaders to explore themes of sustainability, faith, and innovation for Ladakh’s future were present.

Prominent speakers at the event included were Assistant Professor and Geologist Ali Wazir, Intellectual Activist and Islamic Researcher Bashir Ahmad, Senior Assistant from the Handloom Department Baqir Khan, Founder of Ladakh Times Muzammil Mustafa, and Content Manager of Ladakh Times Mehboob Ali.

In his address, Ali Wazir highlighted the significance of Ladakh’s sacred peaks and their role in promoting sustainable development. He discussed the impacts of climate change, pollution, and plastic use on the region, emphasised the need for sustainable practices to secure Ladakh’s future. He also provided insights into the medicinal plants found in Ladakh’s sacred peaks and their potential contributions to the local economy and healthcare.

Intellectual Activist Bashir Ahmad spoke about the alignment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Islamic teachings, focused on goals like poverty eradication, gender equality, and resource optimization. He stressed the importance of skill enhancement and interfaith dialogue in achieving these objectives.

Senior Assistant Baqir Khan from the Handloom Department shed light on women’s empowerment initiatives and various government schemes aimed at making women financially independent. He connected these efforts to the SDGs, demonstrating the vital role of traditional crafts in sustainable development.

Young artists from Team Stringmo created paintings inspired by the SDGs, showcasing themes of interfaith, sustainability, integration of cultural heritage with global development goals.

Prizes were awarded to participants for their creative contributions and innovative ideas.

Later, Founder Ladakh Times Muzammil Mustafa thanked the participants and partners for their collaboration, emphasising that this event also represented an SDGs Partnership for the Goals.
