Rajendra reviews CCTNS functioning

JAMMU, MARCH 02: Calling for use of modern technology in different areas of policing, Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar has said that innovative methods are necessary to bring tangible changes in the methods of investigation and crime detection.
Mr. Rajendra was addressing a State level meeting of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) Empowered Committee meeting at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.
The meeting was convened to take stock of the functioning of CCTNS in the State and take necessary steps for its implementation, which was attended by senior police officers besides officers from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Mr. Rajendra stressed for coordinated efforts by all concerned agencies to roll-over and facilitate working at police station level. He asked for completion of the project and its result orientated functioning to improve police working in the State.
The meeting was informed that in the first phase, 247 locations including 190 police stations, 67 Sub-Divisional Police Offices and other higher police offices, out of 294 locations, have been covered under the project. In the second phase, further 25 police stations in different parts of the State have to be covered under CCTNS Project, the meeting was told. Out of 2.48 lac records of 10 years, 1.87 lac records have already been migrated from legacy applications of Crime Criminal Information System (CCIS) and Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA). Rest records from manual registers are being scanned and digitized.
Mr. Rajendra asked for speedy compilation of records in the police stations and other offices on digitization forms, besides absolute authenticity by the concerned officers. He said that technical training of police personnel is must to implement the project efficiently on the ground. He stressed for capacity building to ensure proper handling of equipment and its efficient usage.
While discussing connectivity status, the DGP was informed that 119 police stations across the State are actively feeding data and all police stations are communicated to lodge FIRs through CCTNS. More than 13,060 FIRs and 621 case diaries besides 8,968 crime detail forms and other reports have been made in CCTNS.
After threadbare deliberations on various issues, several decisions were taken including pending payment to BSNL for seedy implementation of the project and desired results of the efforts made.
ADGP (Headquarters), Mr. S. P. Vaid, taking part in the deliberations, asked the supervisory officers to monitor the progress achieved on the project at different levels. He said that the digitization by system integrator of records should be made under the supervision of Domain Experts to avoid errors.
Earlier, the IGP Crime J&K, Mr. Muneer Ahmed Khan gave detailed power point presentation about the project and apprised the meeting that integration of CCTNS with e-courts, e-prison, prosecution and forensics will form a part of future phase of the project.
