Rajendra assumes charge of Prisons Department

JAMMU: K. Rajendra Kumar today assumed charge as Director General of Prisons from Navin Agarwal, who has been transferred and posted as Director General of Youth Services and Sports.
During his one and half year tenure as Director General Prisons, Navin Agarwal, took several innovative measures like operationalization of new jails in Anantnag and Kishtwar districts and construction of new jails for Pulwama, Leh and Kargil districts. He was also instrumental in introducing various reformative measures for the prisoners including a Reformation Block in Central Jail Jammu, Kotbhalwal and establishing an Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwalla. He also recommended a number of proposals and new schemes to the Government which will enable the prisoners to get a humane treatment facilitating their eventual re-integration into society as reformed citizens. Besides, various changes in the prisons manual have also been suggested which are under active consideration of the Government.
While taking over the charge of Prisons Department, K. Rajendra Kumar, said that all the tasks will be taken forward to make the department an effective and vibrant organization.(KMW News)
