St Petersburg, Aug 30 The Pskov airport will remain closed until the end of the investigation launched after the overnight drone attack, it may resume operations on August 31, Pskov Region Governor Mikhail Vedernikov said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Vedernikov said that the Russian Defense Ministry was repelling an overnight drone attack on the Pskov airport. The attack caused a fire at the airport and damaged an Il-76 military transport aircraft. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties in the incident.
“According to preliminary information, the runway remained in a standard condition. Accordingly, after the completion of all [investigative] activities, the airport will resume its normal operation. I hope that it will be tomorrow, I will do everything necessary for this,” Vedernikov wrote on Telegram.
The consequences of the attack on the airport have been eliminated, the official said, adding that there are no casualties, the damage is being assessed, civilian infrastructure has not been damaged.
