Police harassed 3 Journalists while rendering professional duties

Srinagar, Jul 31: The Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association has condemned the harassment and fifteen minute detention of its President and Chief Editor Kashmir Media Watch Ajaz Ahmad War at Kothi Bagh Police Station, while they were rendering their professional duties during a protest rally of Hurriyat (M), War was accompanied by association’s two more senior members Bilal Bashir Bhat (Chief Editor Only Kashmir) and Syed Tajamul (Online Editor Only Kashmir).
The JKYJA spokesman condemning the act of the Police said, applying such negative tactics against journalists while were rendering their professional duties is an unhealthy development and does not augur well for freedom of press in our part of the world.
Meanwhile reacting over the incident, MLA Langate Engineer Rashid, Kashmir Society Chairman Farooq Renzu Shah, Lawyers Club President Advocate Babar Qadri, Kashmir Traders Federation and many other political and religious heads in separate statements condemned the police action against the journalists.
MLA Langate Engineer Rashid in a statement issued to media lambasted the police authorities for harassing the trio which includes Ajaz War, Bilal Bashir Bhat and Syed Tajamul terming the action as attack in freedom of press.
Engineer Rashid stated “Journalists being harassed while rendering their professional duties is a matter of serious concern and does not augur well for democratic society.”
Condemning the police act, Kashmir Society Chairman Farooq Renzu Shah expressed his anguish over the incident termed the act as against the basic principles of democracy.
The JKYJA spokesman urged Director General of Police Mr. K Rajandra Kumar to intervene in the matter for the safety of the fourth pillar of Democracy.
