Baramulla: A Pakistan-trained militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was arrested by security forces along with Pakistani currency notes and a fake identity card in Kupwara district.
Official sources said here today that police and 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) conducted a joint operation at Khakipora, Handwara, following a tip-off that a militant had returned from the PoK.
During the operation, militant Manzoor Ahmad Lone alias Jehangir was arrested.
Lone, during the questioning, said he had crossed over to PoK in 1999 for receiving arms training.
He returned back recently, the sources said, adding one fake identity card and Rs 500 Pakistani currency were recovered from him.
It was, however, not clear how he managed to reach Handwara despite the presence of a large number of security forces on the Line of Control (LoC) and five km border belt, where curfew remained imposed to foil the militant movement.
Last week, a HM militant, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, had infiltrated along with his wife into this side from across the border.
The two were arrested in a joint operation by state police and 29 Rashitriya Rifles (RR) at Rangee Mode in Baramulla.
One revolver, three rounds and one hand grenade were recovered from them.
The government has announced a policy to rehabilitate the Kashmiris in PoK, who wanted to return to their homes and lead a peaceful life here.
About 100 requests have been received by the authorities from the Kashmiris in PoK who wanted to return to their homes.
