Omar tenders unqualified apology to rape victims for revealing names

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today tendered an unqualified apology to the rape victims for revealing their identity.
The names were listed in a written reply in the House on September 28.
“As you all know the reply is prepared by departments for different ministeries,” Mr Abdullah said. “I came to know that there was a Supreme Court ruling that names of the rape victims should not be revealed.” He said he will inquire under what circumstances the names were revealed.
“As a Chief Minister and Home Minister, I tender my unqualified and deep sense of apology to the rape victims and their families,” he said adding that this should not have happened.
But, he said, “I assure the House that these sort of mistakes will not be repeated in future.
