Jammu, August 03: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) through its Regional Office Jammu, and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) Office, J&K today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Development of Bhadrakali Temple as Cultural Heritage Centre at Village Thalwal, Jammu

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha presided over the MoU signing ceremony at Raj Bhawan. He lauded the initiative of NHPC under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Bhadrakali Temple, nestled on the banks of the Nikki Tawi river in Thalwal, Jammu, is a revered shrine holding profound significance, particularly for the Kashmiri Pandit community. It stands as a powerful symbol of their enduring faith and the preservation of their cultural heritage. The temple is regarded as a new home for the deity, mirroring the historical Bhadrakali temple in Wadipora, Handwara, Kashmir.

“We are determined to preserve our heritage and strengthen cultural, spiritual and historical identity,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The works to be executed under the project costing Rs 6.60 cr include Development of Ghats, Construction of Parking, Construction of Yagya Shala, Construction of protection wall and Compound wall, Finishing of existing building and providing of Gate.
