Srinagar: It has come to fore that scores of separatist leaders who were present in Delhi on Saturday when Muthida Majlis Mashwarat had called for a protest at Jantar Mantar preferred to enjoy the comforts of Pakistan Embassy instead of holding a demo at Jantar Mantar.
A Hurriyat leader told CNS on condition of anonymity that even those separatist leaders who are the constituent of MMM didn’t bother to reach at Jantar Mantar instead they were busy in enjoying the luxurious at Pakistan Embassy in New Delhi. “All the leaders were free and were well aware about the call given by MMM but nobody cared about the call and stayed back in Pakistan Embassy,†a Hurriyat leader told CNS.
According to reports only four separatist leaders including Javid Ahmed Mir, Ahsan Untoo, Zafar Akbar Bhat and Shabir Ahmed Dar reached at Jantar Mantar to register their protest. Although they faced humiliation at the hands of Delhi Police and people present there but most of the separatist leaders present in Pakistan Embassy didn’t care to venture out.
Highly placed sources told CNS that dozens of Hurriyat leaders were present in Pakistan Embassy and didn’t show any interest in reaching to Jantar Mantar to register a protest. These included Er.Hilal Ahamd War, Advocate Mohammad Sahfi Reshi, Altaf Geelani, Zamrooda Habid, Bashir Ahmed Molvi, Abdul Rehman Geelani, Ghulam Mohammad Mir (Poonch), Advocate Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Yasmeen Raja, Aga Syed Hassan, Saleem Geelani, Hakim Rashid, Abdul Majid Wani, Farooq Tawheedi, Abdul Qadeer Dar, Rouf Khan and a Sikh leader from Democratic Freedom Party.
Yasmin Raja told CNS that she did not know about the programme. “Even though I had told so many of my companions whether there is call form MMM or not, nobody gave an assured answer. Later on I came to know some of the Kashmiri leaders have managed to reach at Jantar Mantar. The reality is that I was busy in meeting in Pakistan Embassy, Yasmeen Raja said.
A close associate of Syed Ali Shah Geelani pleading anonymity categorically told CNS that he didn’t know about the call of MMM. “I didn’t know anything about the call given by MMM. When asked, even a child in Kashmir was aware about the calendar put forth by MMM, he said he is not interested in calendars and that’s why he preferred to stay in Embassy than visiting Jantar Mantar.
Same views were expressed by Hurriyat (M) leader, Aga Syed Hassan. “I did’t know about the programme given by MMM and further more I was not in Embassy,†he said.
Bar Association member, Advocate Moahammad Ashraf Bhat while talking to CNS said that no one registered protest at Jantar Mantar. “Some so-called leaders just visited Jantar Mantar and spread a word amoung media that they held a protest but the reality is that no one held a protest there. Frankly speaking I did not know about the programme and I don’t know who are representing MMM on part of Bar Association,†Bhat said. Most of the people whom CNS contacted said that it is apathy that those who are the brainchild of MMM calendar didn’t know about the contents of the programme.
