Srinagar, March 31, KMW: Incessant torrential rains have caused massive water logging in the Indra Nagar Sonawar area of Srinagar city, while locals are fuming as the administration according to them have made no efforts dewater the area. Water has entered the houses of people, thus disrupting their day-to-day activities.
A suffering resident Bilal Ahmed of the area told KMW, “Every year, this problem occurs even if it rains a bit. The drains were made here, but God knows why and how they get chocked even with a little bit of rain. The administration is sleeping and everybody is facing problems because of the heavy rains.”
Another resident said, “The area has a completely faulty system. We even complained to the chief engineer about our problem, but nothing has happened. The local MLA is busy in Assembly and doing nothing for us,†he said.
A resident of Iqbal Colony Sonwar said that the area was badly hit during September floods and this time too the locals suffered due to official apathy as the water has entered into number of houses situated in Indra Nagar, Iqbal Colony and Sonwar but authorities seems to be unmoved by our plight.
The rains have also triggered waterlogging in different areas all across Kashmir including Batamaloo, Channapora, Lal Bazar, Bemina, Fruit Mandi HMT, and some areas in Anantnag disrupting the flow of traffic on the roads.
Vehicular movement came to halt near Kadlabal, Pampore due to waterlogging on the road. The administration diverted the traffic via Namlabal area while Police evacuated several families from Drangbal and shifted them to Block office Pampore.
Reports said that rainwater have entered into scores of residential houses and shops in different localities of Pampore while according to locals the dewatering process is going on at slow pace.
