Srinagar: Police and security forces on Saturday claimed to have killed District Commander of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in an encounter in Shopian. “On a specific information today afternoon, regarding the presence of armed militants in village Husanpora, Nagabal, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora, Shopian Police, 62 RR and 14 Bn CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation,” reads the statement issued to Kashmir Media Watch by Police media cell. The statement further mentioned that the militants hiding, fired upon the search party and an encounter broke. Police said that in the encounter Abass Reshi alias Abid Bhai son of Bashir Ahmad Reshi resident of Ali-Shahpora, Zainapora District Commander of LeT outfit was killed. A.G. Mir, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone termed the killing of the District Commander, Abass Reshi as a major success for Police and Security forces. According to Police, Abass Reshi was involved in number of militancy related incidents including hurling of grenade on Army and firing on Police Station Zainapora. Police further claimed that Abass was also involved in the killing of a released militant Shabir Ahmad Mir in September this year. “One civilian Ghulam Ahmad Parry was also injured, he was hospitalized and is out of danger,” confirms the police statement.
