JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police today lifted Christmas Football Gold Cup Trophy at a thrilling match played in the Stadium of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu this afternoon. The J&K Police Football team defeated the J&K Food and Supplies Football team by 1.0-goal.
The Minister for CA&PD and Transport Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon was the chief guest at the final match of the Christmas Football Gold Cup Tournament which was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Christian Welfare Association in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association and the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council. As many as 20 Football teams of the State took part in the tournament which commenced from 13thDecember 2011.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the importance of Sports in inculcating the sportsmanship, team spirit and discipline among the youth adding that the government was very keen to develop necessary sports infrastructure in nook and corner of the State to provide adequate sports facilities to the youth. He said it was very encouraging to see youth coming forward towards sports in a big way, which he said will help to enable them contribute towards the society. He also congratulated the Christian Welfare Association for organizing the event adding that it will enable help the youth to exhibit their talent in various fields of the life. He said every possible steps would be taken to encourage football teams of J&K SRTC and Food and Supplies Departments.
Later, the Minister handed over the trophy to the J&K Police Football team and runner up trophy to J&K Food and Supply team. The players were introduced with the Minister soon after culmination of the match.
The Additional General of Police Armed and Law and Order Mr. K. Rejindra, President J&K Bank Mr. O. P. Sharma, Chairman of the Tournament and Head J&K Christian Welfare Association Mr. S. M. Gill, Bishop M. M. Nisar, President J&K Football Association Jammu Wing Mr. Surinder Singh Banty and concerned members and organizers of the tournament were present besides a large number of football lovers. (KMW News)
