I Love to do challenging roles- Neelam Singh

Neelam Singh, vibrant and talented actress of Kashmir is known for her acting skills and superb caliber. Her first serial was “Tavnich Duniya” in the year 1999.
She has seventeen year experience in acting line. Neelam is approved ‘A’ Grade Drama Artist of Doordarshan kendra Srinagar and All India Radio. To her credit, she has worked more than 300 serials including tele plays, tele-series for DD Kashir,DD urdu , DD Jammu and DD National, during her 17 year old career in acting line. Besides great acting aptitude, she has ability to perform in number of diverse languages- Kashmiri, English,Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Dogri languages.
In an exclusive interview with The Kashmir Media Watch, Neelam Singh talks to Rameez Makhdoomi.
A bit about yourself?
I was born in Baramulla town North kashmir. Till the 8th standard, I was there and later I started staying with my mother in Srinagar, there I completed my study ,but in the mean time I got offer for serials when I was in school only, and I started acting too-That was the beginning Of my career .
How did you manage studies?
During my school time whenever I was at shoot I was taking my books with me and making notes there in my free time.
What is the mantra behind getting featured on prestigious song and life ok serials?
t is not easy to get work in such reputed channels one has to have that required zeal and zest. We also witness lot of struggle to accomplish this and have to be confident that one is capable of delivering.
Your preferred roles?
I just want to do work either it is for tv or cinema. .doesn’t matter for me I want to perform only with good screen time.I Love to do challenging roles.
Glamour world is tough, how to cope with same?
Yes, it is a tough world because there is a lots of competition. Its upto you whether you want to jump in the crowd or have to choose other field.
Was acting always your first love?
This is the only question which always confused me because to be an actor was not my ambition. I wanted to be a Doctor but it’s all in destiny. But, yes today I love my work and it became my passion now.
How has your theatre experience been since it is considered as main breeding ground for artists?
Any artist wanting to make tangible headways in the acting world has to undertake the experience of theatre .Theatre is the real training ground for artists and I had a very successful experience in world of theatre with one of the plays in which I played prominent role bagging many awards.
Your message to newcomers and strugglers?
What message should I give, because i am still in somewhat you can say sought of still struggling phase. We are learning and struggling till end of life. But, yes I want to convey to newcomers who want to be in acting field that first just look at yourself completely especially where you stand in acting. When you realised that the particular character suits you and you can do it very comfortably plus if you are a camera lover…than go for it.

Upcoming is not confirmed yet..I want to disclose it. I will tell when I find the appropriate time to say about it.
