Governor greets people on World Tourism Day

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 26: Governor N.N. Vohra has greeted the people on the occasion of the World Tourism Day on 27 September.
In his message, the Governor observed that the World Tourism Day is celebrated for generating worldwide awareness about the social, cultural, political and economic values of tourism.
The Governor said that tourism, a very important segment of the J&K’s economy, can make a much larger contribution with the establishment of world class infrastructure which is managed by professionally trained manpower. The State, endowed with incomparably enchanting scenic beauty, should make well planned efforts to attract the largest possible number of tourists to visit the picturesque areas in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. The Governor hoped that the State, known for its hospitality and warmth, should soon emerge as the front runner in offering world class services in the tourism sector.
Besides the well over 1.2 million tourists who visited the State this year, more than 61 lakh pilgrims who have visited the Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji Shrine till date this year and 2.2 lakh devotees paid obeisance at the Shri Amarnathji Shrine during July- August this year.
The Governor expressed the hope that peace and normalcy shall be very soon restored in the Kashmir Valley and a large number of tourists shall visit the State during this winter.
