Srinagar: Ahead of his Hurriyat Conference (G) programme to meet the detainees at central jail Srinagar, its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was placed under house arrest this morning.
According to a press release spokesman Hurriyat (G) Ayaz Akbar said that around 8. 30 AM this morning Geelani was placed under house arrest to prevent him from visiting central jail Srinagar, where he had to meet the inmates. Meanwhile Hurriyat (G) has decided to start a campaign to make people aware about the Dogra certificate issued to Jammu citizens.  “In this connection, a seminar to be attended by people from different shades of life would be held on April 18 at Hyderpora. Intellectuals’ from Jammu would also take part in the seminar,” spokesman said. He said that Hurriyat (G) has already filed a writ petition against Geelani’s continuous house arrest and a team of lawyers’ led by senior lawyer Zaffar Shah was pursuing the case.
